We recommend that you read the entire page, before purchasing a puppy from us. However, if you have a specific question, you can click on any of the questions below to skip to that answer. If your question is not answered here, please use the contact info on bottom of the home page. What is included with the purchase of a puppy? All of our puppies have a series of booster shots starting at 6 weeks of age. They are also dewormed at every vaccination point. We do include a shot record file, with a log of both. Labels from vaccine viles are on the back. Each folder has a copy of the proper vaccination schedule, deworming schedule, and diet that your puppy is used to. Please do not change their food, this causes serious, and sometimes fatal diarrhea. A small bag of food will be included. Our puppies eat Pedigree puppy food. It is a very high quality food, at a much lower price than vet recommended foods. For fun, we also include a baby book (cd-rom) with each puppy. It will have photos taken weekly, from birth, to pick-up. How do I contact Chijuana Chihuahuas? All of our contact information is available at the bottom of the Home page. We definitely do not ship our puppies. They are very fragile, and easily stressed. It is not worth it. We strongly encourage you to visit our facility. Meet the parents, and see where your puppy is coming from. In this day of scammers, it is a bad choice to buy a puppy, and never see where it came from. We may meet or deliver, if it is absolutely necessary, but we prefer you to come and pick up your puppy. Health Guarantees, refunds and returns? We do guarantee your puppy for any genetic defects for the first year. A licensed veterinarian must sign a statement that the ailment is genetic. The puppy must be returned to us, and a refund will be issued. Illnesses caused by worms, or diseases needing vaccines are not covered. It is the responsibility of the new owner to maintain vaccines and deworming once the puppy is in your care. If you have decided you don't want the puppy anymore, you can return it without refund, at any age. We beg, that if you are not 100% certain that you are transferring the puppy to a good home, please bring it back to us. We do not want our puppies ending up in bad homes, or shelters. What forms of payment do you accept? We accept credit cards, paypal, and cash only. If you are paying by credit card or paypal, you will see MIDWESTPETFINDER on your statement. We will send you the link to make a payment or deposit, once you are approved. Please note that if it is decided, by us, that you are not the best home for the puppy, you will be refunded. NO PERSONAL CHECKS At what age can I take my puppy home? Because of the size, and fragility of these pups (usually the females), we prefer to keep them until they are at least 10 weeks old. Occasionally, we may feel that the puppy needs even more time than this, to be ready for the move. Otherwise we will let them go at 8 weeks, providing the puppy is doing very well, and eating normally. Do the puppies have registration papers? No. These puppies are for pets only. We absolutely will not sell to breeders. Measures are taken at the time of sale to make sure these dogs are not bred. We also do not sell to "animal collectors". It is our goal to find homes that will treat our babies as a member of the family. We like them to be an only pet, or 1 of 2 pets. Papers are only necessary if you wish to breed, or show your dog. We only sell to homes where the puppy will be a pet, and member of the family. So we do not give papers with our puppies. Only our stud is registered, in case we would lease him for stud service. Large Dogs, Other pets & small children? Although we love small children, and all other animals, these are not safe for your new puppy. Even the gentlest small child can fall, or step on the puppy. And that sweet big dog, will run your puppy over without even realizing it. As for other pets, we have to trust you to know the temperament of your animal. If you have a cat that hates dogs, this is not a good idea. Your cat could easily cream this puppy. Chihuahuas are bold and fearless, they do not back down. This often leads to terrible, if not fatal, injury. What qualities do you breed for? We breed for size, health, and temperament. We love them tiny and fearless, with extreme loyalty to their humans. We want them loveable, and non-aggressive to visitors. We like them to be comedic. All of our Chihuahuas have personality traits that are hilarious! We want a healthy, happy dog who can make you laugh on a bad day, snuggle you with empathy when your sad, and share in your joy when everything is going great. If we have done our job, and our puppies have inherited their parents qualities, there will be many times that you forget this is a dog. Our puppies are mostly priced by size. However, we do factor in color, temperament, coat length and sex. How often do you have litters? We only do one litter at a time. Our mommies are fragile dogs, who need specialized care and attention during pregnancy. It is very time consuming, and would be hard to do, with more than one at a time. We will not allow another breeding to occur until all of the existing puppies have found good, forever homes. The next breeding will be out of a different female, to give the last mommy time to recover, and enjoy her freedom from responsibility again. This usually puts each mommy on a schedule of one litter every 1 1/2 to 2 years. This keeps are girls from getting over bred, having health problems, and dying at a young age. If a mommy has to go for a c-section, she is spayed at that time. We feel that it is her way of saying she cannot, or does not want to, have puppies anymore. Our dogs are our children. We will not take unnecessary risks with them, waiting list or not. Our puppies are started on the litterbox, as soon as they can walk. We find that if it is available immediately, they will instinctively use it. Animals prefer to go in the dirt. By the time they are ready to leave they are used to using one. However, once at their new home, you will need to start them in a small area with it, until they get used to it's location in your home. Gradually expand the area, until you are sure they know where it is. If the puppy is laying on your lap, and suddenly becomes restless, take them to the litterbox, and they will usually go right away. This also further instills in them, that this is where you desire them to go. The litterbox must be kept clean. they are not like cats, who will keep piling it in. They won't go in it, if it's dirty. If you prefer your puppy to go outside, they should be fairly easy to train, since they have already been taught to go in a specific place. What are the size and temperaments of the parents? All of the parents have their own biography pages. You can learn about each one by clicking on their link at the top, or bottom, of the Home page. At this time, our mommies are Lola & Lacie, and our daddy is Chico. We may add 2 more mommies in the future. No breeder can guarantee size. We use the standard weight/growth chart to guestimate size. It is usually accurate within 1/2 a pound. As each puppy grows at a different rate of speed, we watch the chart for a few weeks, to see where the puppy falls each week. Then we make the prediction. Other factors contribute to size, such as overfeeding. Be sure to follow the directions on the bag of dog food. A puppy that has accelerated growth from over feeding, can have heart problems later. The body tends to grow faster than the heart, in dogs. Please know that these are not breed names, registered terms, or breed standards. It is only a descriptive term used to describe dogs usually under 5 pounds. It is no different than listing a "Long haired" Chihuahua. That is not a registered term either. They are all registered "Chihuahua", no matter what size or coat. We have recently opened our doors to Chihuahua rescue. View our "Rescue" Page.. Please note, that not all surrendered dogs can be adopted. Sometimes cruelty, and/or bad temperaments has made them unfit for inexperienced homes. Those dogs will remain at our facility, under our care. They will never be up for adoption. We will include their stories on the adoption page anyway, but they will be marked unavailable. No dog is euthanized at our facility, unless they have a hopeless condition, that causes suffering. Are all Chihuahuas Nervous & Skiddish? Every Chihuahua is different. Some are very skiddish, others are too brave for their own good. Size does not play a factor in temperament. The more socialized, the better. A Chihuahua that is carried with you everywhere you go, spends all it's time with the family, and even sleeps with you, is a much calmer animal. They come to believe they are people too, and this stops that skiddish behavior. |
